HIV Testing

An HIV test is a test that reveals whether the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is present in the body. For most people it takes between 2 weeks to 3 months after contact occurs for antibodies to be detected by a traditional test. However, McGregor Clinic offers the Fourth Generation Test which reduces this window period to 2-4 weeks. Our staff also provides rapid testing in various community locations outside of the clinic. We conduct HIV tests free of charge.

Reasons to get tested may include:

  • You think you may have been exposed to HIV.
  • You’re thinking of having sex with a new partner and want to be sure of your HIV status.
  • You’re pregnant or thinking about getting pregnant.

The McGregor Clinic offers confidential testing, your test results will only be shared with you. Before you take the test a counselor will explain the test and answer your questions. Once the test results are available a counselor will review them with you.
